A beginner surf camp in Morocco, built around your first week in the water.

If you have never stood on a surfboard, this is the week for you. Morocco Surf Club is a small-group beginner surf camp in Taghazout Bay, near Agadir, where most guests arrive having never surfed — and leave catching their own waves. Groups are capped at 5, the coach picks forgiving sand breaks around your level, and board and wetsuit are included.

It is normal to be nervous before the first paddle-out

Almost everyone who books a beginner week feels the same thing on day one: a mix of excitement and a quiet worry that they will be the worst person in the water. You will not be. The whole group is at the same stage, and the session is designed so your first wins come fast.

We start in white water on a stable, high-volume foam board where standing up is forgiving and falling is safe. By the time nerves wear off, most people have already felt the board glide — and that is the moment it clicks.

Your first week, day by day

From never-surfed to choosing your own waves

This is the arc a complete beginner usually follows. Conditions move it around — the coach reads the forecast each morning — but the direction is always the same: confidence first, green waves later.

  1. Days 1–2

    Get comfortable, get up

Ocean safety, how to carry and control the board, and popping up in white water. First stands happen here.

  2. Days 3–4

    Stop rushing the takeoff

Timing your entry so you stop nose-diving, plus your first decisions about which way to ride.

  3. Days 5–7

    Your first green waves

Catching unbroken waves and choosing small green faces on purpose, with feedback between sets.

Why beginners do well here

Small groups and the right wave, not a crowded lesson

  • Groups capped at 5 per coach, so every pop-up is seen and corrected.
  • Forgiving breaks: we start at Panoramas and Banana Point where the bottom is sand and the fall is safe.
  • Gear sized to you, so you are not fighting the wrong board while learning the basics.
  • Honest spot calls: if the swell jumps, we move to protected setups instead of pushing you out of your depth.

Beginner questions

Beginner surf camp — your questions answered

Tap a question — same wording we confirm by email before you book.

Can I join if I have never surfed before?

Yes — most guests who book the beginner week have never stood up on a board. The first day is ocean safety, board control, and popping up in white water on a stable foam board. You are never thrown into waves above your level.

Will I actually be able to stand up in a week?

Most complete beginners are riding white water and catching their first unbroken waves by the middle of the week. Seven days of daily coaching is enough to move from your first pop-up to choosing small green faces, as long as you are reasonably fit and follow the briefs.

Is Morocco safe for a beginner surfer?

On the right tide, the sand-bottom breaks around Taghazout Bay — Panoramas and Banana Point — are forgiving and open, with a safe fall and no shallow reef in the takeoff zone. Your coach picks the spot each morning around your level, so beginners never surf heavy point breaks like Anchor.

I am not very fit — is that a problem?

Surfing is tiring at first, mostly from paddling. We keep beginner sessions to meaningful reps rather than exhausting marathons, and we break earlier if your arms fade. You do not need to be an athlete; you need to be willing to keep getting back up.

How is this different from your regular surf camp?

It is the same capped week and the same coaching — this page just focuses on the first-timer experience: the fear of the first paddle-out, what day one really feels like, and how we build confidence. The full schedule, packages, and pricing live on our surf camp page.

What is the best time of year for beginners?

Spring and autumn often suit first-timers best: smaller, friendlier swell, warmer air, and quieter lineups. Winter brings more power and is better once you have a few sessions behind you. We can steer you to a beginner-friendly week when you tell us your dates.
